BLAST machine selectionWhen you click "Local" radio button in the BLAST Machine section, available databases for selected Program will be shown in the Database pull-down menu. If no database for selected Program is available, warning message will be displayed. For example, blastn program requires DNA database such as env_nt or nt and blastp program requires protein database such as env_nr or nr. Since the standalone BLAST program tries to read all of the selected database into the memory, your Macintosh works slow because of the large amount of memory consumption. If local search with large database is performed frequently, it is recommended to provide enough physical memory to avoid slow swapping. |
